Shaun is a trial lawyer who focuses his practice in criminal law and select civil litigation. In 2006 Chambers USA described him as a “master in handling government investigations on behalf of a nationwide clientele.” Shaun has also tried civil cases in areas including commercial disputes, personal injury, taxation and others.
Government Investigations and Prosecutions
Won reversal of investor’s conviction based on violation of his fifth amendment rights in United States v. Hoover, 467 F.3d 496 (5th Cir. 2006). The indictment was later dismissed.
Obtained favorable civil resolution in investigation of major energy company for alleged criminal violations of Outer Continental Shelf Lands Act.
Successfully represented hospital in Louisiana Attorney General’s investigation of alleged euthanizing of stranded patients following Hurricane Katrina
Represented a former player in congressional investigation of performance enhancing drug use in major league baseball.
Civil Litigation
Represented hospital in antitrust litigation that prevented takeover attempt by its major competitor.
Obtained verdict for contractor in fee dispute against public entity. City v. Municipal Administrative Services, 376 F.3d 501 (5th Cir. 2004)
Obtained injunction for Louisiana organ transplant centers that prohibited federal government from implementing allocation system that would have limited access to transplants for Louisiana residents.
Obtained verdict for major corporation in multi-million dollar dispute with local taxing entity.
